The Environment is a work of speculative fiction about a world that is gradually ceasing to conform to familiar ideas of reality.

It is a story about doubt and choice, the limits of the familiar, and the possibility of change. About how easily we accept the existing order as the only one possible — and how difficult it can be to recognise the moment when it stops being the only one.

Every world has its own rules. Some seem unchangeable. Others have been in place for so long that no one remembers why they were established in the first place.

He has always believed that every problem has a cause and every error an explanation. Until one day, he encounters something that fits none of the familiar patterns.

Perhaps it is not individual events that are changing. Perhaps it is the very possibility of change.
